LSP Operational Growth Management

This 4-session, online interactive training course will provide a detailed summary of Operations Management for Language Service Providers (LSPs).

We will provide tools, frameworks, and a baseline understanding to help managers assess and improve the performance of their LSPs. Moderated by Andrew Smart, everything we present is backed by research from Slator and has been developed specifically for growing LSPs.

Intended Learning Outcomes

LSP Operational Growth Management will introduce you to the nature of Operations Management and how it applies to an LSP. It starts with an outline of the topic and moves into specific examples based on industry leading research.

The course will develop your understanding of language operations, give you practical tools to help you design better businesses and make you a better manager. Operations Management is critical in a business organization as it aids in the effective management, control, and supervision of goods, services, and people. It is particularly useful in an LSP as these can be fast moving, high stress environments running on small margins.

The content of this course will enable you to:

  • Develop an Operations Strategy for your LSP
  • Understand that operations contribute to the development and implementation of a successful strategy
  • Have the confidence to deal with the management of change in operations through understanding the critical transitions of both process and people

Teaching and Learning Methods

The program is delivered in blocks. Spread over 4 sessions with periods of independent study between each session. We will ask you to develop an action plan at the end of Session 3. Session 4 will provide you with one-on-one feedback on your plan to help you increase your profits and grow your business.

Session 1. An Introduction to Language Operations – Service Operations Management (Transformation Process Model, The Typology of Operations), Operations & Business Strategy
Session 2. Running and Improving your LSP – 7 Tools: Company Structure, BHAGs (pronounced “Bee Hag is an acronym of “Big Hairy Audacious Goal”), Key Business Metrics, Balanced Scorecard, Financial Measures, Risk Management, LSP Operational Growth Roadmap
Session 3. Developing Tomorrow’s Business – Scanning the 3 Horizons, Evaluating Business Functions for Offshoring, The 3, 12, 6 Plan
Session 4. Feedback on your Plan – One-to-one coaching session to assess the first milestone of the created 3, 12, 6 plan and progress towards the other two goals.

The Trainer

Richard Brooks

Richard Brooks is the CEO and co-owner of Language Service Provider K International. He has spent 25 years+ in the localization industry and has held executive board positions at both the European Language Industry Association and the Association of Language Companies. A popular conference speaker and localization industry trainer, he has visited over 40 countries and worked internationally for most of his management career.

He completed his MBA at Cranfield School of Management majoring in economics and finance. He now sits on an advisory panel and is a visiting lecturer at the same university. Richard is also a fellow of the Institute of Sales Professionals where he is helping develop sales training for SMEs. As a business mentor and investor with the Impact Central program he helps startups navigate the challenges of growth.
