The third largest market in the world for online sales is essentially closed off to international companies. In Japan, a foreign organization needs to effectively navigate government restrictions, distribution issues, and language and pricing model variations.   3. Mobile carrier programs – Offered by the three largest players in Japan — NTT Docomo, KDDI au, and Softbank Mobile. These carriers have their own eShops with hugely popular all-you-can-grab app packages and 20 million subscribers between them. Matsuda estimates that these carrier programs together make a 1 billion USD market.
