A consortium of MT vendors, a consultation company and an Irish Academic Body have been awarded the largest EU contract by Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)
09 August 2017, Dublin, Ireland: KantanMT is pleased to announce that they are a part of the winning consortium, which has been awarded a 1.9 million Euros contract to develop the next generation Machine Translation platform for the European Commission. The IADAATPA (Intelligent, Automatic Domain Adapted Automated Translation for Public Administrations) Consortium will supply infrastructure services to the EU in the field of Digital Service Infrastructures (DSIs), which will deliver a highly secure, scalable Machine Translation platform, which will make automated translation ubiquitous across the European Public Administrations.
The consortium includes Pangeanic, KantanMT, Prompsit, Tilde, Everis and DCU, with support from public administrations in Spain (Segittur and SESIAD). The IADAATPA promises to accelerate Trans-European connectivity, improve access to digital services, facilitate interoperability between digital services and link national infrastructure to the existing core MT@EC automated translation platform.
The winning contract by the consortium includes the provision of domain-specific customised MT engines to complement the automated translation service already in place. These domain specific engines will be made available to users of the MT@EC service via the IADAATPA platform and can provide more accurate automated translations for particular domains or language pairs.
“Domain detection, evaluation and adaptation are core technologies that will deliver this next generation machine translation platform for the European Commission” says Tony O’Dowd, CEO and Chief Architect of KantanMT. “Apart from providing our cutting-edge MT technology that brings together the best of Statistical MT and Neural MT, KantanMT will also collaborate with ADAPT Centre in DCU to evaluate the translation quality of the MT engines developed. We are humbled by the win, and really excited about working with the other members to the consortium to design and develop the future MT services for Public Administrations within the European Union”.
“What differentiates this platform is that it will be designed to establish a marketplace for technology providers to provide sophisticated and advanced Machine Translation services to Public Administrations”, said Manuel Herranz, CEO at Pangeanic. “This means that language will no longer be a barrier to access and avail of public services across the European Union.”
The IADAATPA platform will integrate seamlessly with existing European eDelivery Service, ensuring that other technology players can leverage it’s capabilities, scalability and services. This will ensure that the IADAATPA platform can be deployed across other digital services, by other MT providers and technology developers broadening the range of multilingual services across the European Union. This is inline with the goals and objectives outlined in the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility).
