HOUSTON, TX – June 9, 2021. – MasterWord Services Inc. is delighted to announce Karen Tkaczyk as their new Director of Life Sciences Solutions, an exciting addition to their growing team of industry experts. MasterWord’s comprehensive Life Sciences solutions encompass a full suite of language services with workflows customized to our clients’ needs. They are designed to be scalable, reduce risk, maximize productivity and accuracy, and exceed expectations across the whole supply chain.
With a wealth of experience and knowledge in language services for the regulated life sciences, from research to clinical trials, via IP and regulatory affairs, Karen brings new in-house expertise to MasterWord. Karen’s primary focus will be optimizing solutions for MasterWord’s existing chemical and life sciences customers, while growing the division and developing new offerings.

After earning an MChem in Chemistry with French from the University of Manchester, UK and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge, UK, Karen’s early career was as a development chemist in the pharmaceutical industry in Ireland. After moving to the USA, she combined that subject-matter expertise with her multicultural life experience to establish and run McMillan Translation Inc., where she was a practitioner from 2005 to 2021.
As well as translating, editing, and localizing for her clients in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and medical devices industries, Karen has been a sought-after trainer and speaker, often offering sold-out workshops and to be found on conference attendees’ “must see” lists. Karen’s keynotes, presentations, training courses and workshops fall in three principal areas: sharing her Life Sciences expertise with those in languages services, how to improve scientific and technical writing, and quality assurance in translation and localization.
Karen is the current Secretary of the Board of the American Translators Association, the world’s largest association for the language services industry, which was established to advance the translation and interpreting professions and to foster the professional development of its members. She also serves on the Leadership Team for Women in Localization’s Colorado Chapter as Mentoring and Education Manager.
On her appointment, Karen said, “MasterWord does business with heart. In making the move from being a practitioner to a sales role, I chose a company committed to excellence and integrity where giving back is part of the mission. I look forward to learning from inspiring leaders and to helping us achieve remarkable growth. I am excited to be part of the team helping MasterWord go from strength to strength.”
Founder and President Ludmila Golovine added, “We are all honored to work with Karen and confident that under her guidance MasterWord’s Life Sciences Division will be well positioned for strong growth offering best-in-kind solutions to our clients. Karen brings a positive spirit and years of experience. She inspires those she works with.”
