Brunó Bitter joined memoQ in 2017 as Global Head of Marketing and was shortly promoted to VP, Global Marketing and Sales, a title that he still holds today. Since he joined the company, he has built an integrated sales-marketing team, launched a premium tech-consulting unit called Business Services, established the memoQ Gaming Unit to dedicate resources for the gaming market, revamped the memoQ brand, grown memoQ cloud business 80% (y/y 2018), enabled doubling of sales in China and Japan, and increased organic and social inbound traffic over 100% year-over-year, among many other achievements. (To read more about Brunó’s background, plans, and outlook on the translation industry, check out last year’s interview in Slator.)

In 2018, to support and strengthen the growing memoQ presence in the Americas, Brunó led the project to establish memoQ Inc., the company’s new North American HQ. Toronto was chosen for its tech market, business vibrancy, diversity, and general openness to innovative companies. memoQ’s entry was supported by Toronto Global, a not-for-profit investment attraction agency that promotes the expansion of foreign-owned businesses in the Toronto region.

In 2019, Brunó was appointed Chief Operating Officer of memoQ Translation Technologies Inc., subsequently moved to Toronto, and opened memoQ’s North American headquarters at 180 John Street, a stylish and versatile office environment in downtown Toronto operated by SPACES.

Building a dedicated team for the Americas has been underway for more than a year. There are now eight team members based in the USA, Canada, and Hungary, and more are expected to be added. Richard Sikes recently joined this team as a Solution Architect. He is a senior localization expert who has been immersed in technological translation and localization for over 30 years.

The latest version of memoQ (9.1) is to be released on 12 September 2019. One of the most significant new features is an integration with Antidote, which has been widely requested by many existing and soon-to-be memoQ users.

„Establishing a North American HQ for memoQ was a long-awaited step in the history of our company. We are now closer to our clients in the Americas with local resources dedicated to serving them more efficiently.” – Bruno Bitter.
