The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has posted vacancies for three significant language-focused roles based in Brussels, working within the larger Council Secretariat (CONSEC).

Specifically, NATO is seeking a new Deputy Head of Linguistic Services and Digital Transformation Lead, working in conjunction with a new Translation Project Manager and Computational Linguist.

All three roles are only open to citizens of NATO member countries, and require applicants to have a strong command of both English and French, NATO’s two official languages.

The Deputy Head of Linguistic Services and Digital Transformation Lead opening offers a monthly salary of EUR 9,604.83 for an initial three-year contract that can be renewed for a second three-year period, though the listing states the maximum period of service expected is 6 years.

The primary function of this role will be to lead a transition of the Linguistic Services into an AI-enabled service. This will involve change management responsibilities and advising on new language services technologies. They will also manage the Linguistic Planning and Digital Transformation Office team members.

The role requires a relevant university degree, or equivalent, and at least seven years of change management and implementation experience in a language services context, including with AI-powered tools.

The deadline to apply for the Deputy Head of Linguistic Services position is August 23, 2026.

The full-time Translation Project Manager and the Computational Linguist roles both offer a monthly salary of EUR 6,847.99, a three-year contract with the potential for an indefinite-duration contract extension, and will report to the new Deputy Head of Linguistic Services.

The Translation Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing “the entire life-cycle of translation projects,” and the successful candidate will need to have a relevant degree or university-level translation training.

The deadline to apply for the Translation Project Manager position is August 30, 2026.

The Computational Linguist role will involve assisting the Deputy Head of Linguistic Services to create “strategies, methods and good practices for Linguistic Services.” They will also be responsible for the entire lifecycle of linguistic data, including making an assessment regarding the quality of outputs.

Other key responsibilities for this role will include regularly updating AI-based translation solutions with “relevant multilingual data,” participating in all steps of translation-tool acquisition, including both technical and administrative elements, and participating in the maintenance of internal libraries, linguistic data, and staff access portals.

The deadline to apply for the Computational Linguist role is September 13, 2026.

It’s worth noting that all three job listings include language stating that NATO reserves the right to automatically reject any applications that have been prepared using “any tools available on internet, including but not limited to translation facilities, or generative artificial-intelligence (AI) tools.”
