The first International Conference New Trends in Translation and Technology (NeTTT) is due to take place on the island of Rhodes, Greece, 4-6 July 2022.
The conference is organized by Dimetra Academy for Translators, Greece; the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting and the Department of Informatics at Ionian University, Greece; the ADAPT Center at Dublin City University, Ireland; the Research Group in Computational Linguistics at University of Wolverhampton, UK; and the Association of Computational Linguistics, Bulgaria. The conference will be chaired by:
Dr Sheila Castilho (Dublin City University, Ireland)
Dr Vilelmini Sosoni (Ionian University, Greece)
Ms Maria Sgourou (Dimetra Academy for Translators, Greece)
Prof Ruslan Mitkov (University of Wolverhampton, UK)
NeTTT aims to bring together academics in Linguistics, Translation Studies, Machine Translation, Translation Technology and Natural Language Processing, as well as developers, practitioners, language service providers and vendors, who work on or are interested in different aspects of translation and technology. The conference will serve as a platform for discussing all emerging developments and practices in the field and as a medium to initiate business and research contacts, and establish collaborations and new ventures.
NeTTT features two distinct tracks: a research track and an industry track. It includes peer-reviewed research and industry oral and poster presentations, keynote speeches, and panels covering a variety of topics ranging from MT evaluation to technology applied for intersemiotic image translation and from gender-fair MT to MTPE workflows.
The conference keynote speakers are Sharon O’Brien, Professor of Translation Studies at the School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies, Dublin City University, Mikel L. Forcada, full professor of Computer Languages and Systems at the Universitat d’Alacant, Marcello Federico, Principal Applied Scientist at Amazon AI, and Christos Ellinides, Director-General for the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) at the European Commission.
NeTTT will be preceded by a two-day summer school on Neural Machine Translation (2-3 July) and a Workshop on Translation Technology for Creative Domains (3 July). The conference will conclude on July 7th with a series of Tutorials on subtitling on the cloud, keylogging, and machine translation post-editing for media and subtitles.
All this is complemented by a rich social programme which includes networking and fun activities which will help us celebrate coming together again as a community after more than two years of remote events. Here’s a taste of what you can look forward to:
- Welcome cocktail reception before the main conference for all delegates at the 7th Floor Deck of the conference venue, the Sheraton Hotel Rhodes.
- Gala Dinner at NOR Beachlife Restaurant a dreamy setting by the sea that combines amazing views, exquisite food and music with magical island vibes to dance the night away.
- A choice of a fun excursion: either an idyllic sunset cruise where you can experience Rhodes from the water at dusk, take a dive into the calm waters of Kallithea Springs and see the stars come out while enjoying wine and finger food or a comprehensive guided tour of the unique town of Rhodes followed by award-wining dining and wining at the Sissitio Wine Bar and Restaurant which promises to take us into a journey of flavours and aromas and excite our senses.
