Cross-Cultural Communications & Blue Horizon Launch The Medical Interpreter Online

The Medical Interpreter Online was just released by Cross-Cultural Communications (CCC) on its Blue Horizon online training platform. It offers an interactive, skills-based introduction to medical interpreting.

The Medical Interpreter Online (TMIO) meets the training requirement for the two U.S. national certification programs for medical interpreters: the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) and the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI).

This 40-hour foundation program prepares interpreters to perform medical interpreting in hospitals, clinics, health departments and other healthcare settings. It is supported by the most widely sold medical interpreting textbooks in the world: The Medical Interpreter: A Foundation Textbook in Medical Interpreting (2016) and Medical Terminology for Interpreters, 4th ed. (2019).

CCC is proud to announce this program, which builds on the current 40-hour online training program, The Community Interpreter® Online (TCIO). Below is a brief overview of what interpreters can expect of TMIO and a comparison of TCIO to TMIO.

How TMIO Is Different from Other Programs

TMIO was created by the leading national training agency for community and medical interpreters—Cross-Cultural Communications (CCC).

TMIO is interactive and engaging, with surprises, variety, humor and fun.

TMIO:

  • Was created by national experts.
  • Is intensive, interactive and filled with practice—not boring.
  • Offers the most widely sold textbooks in the field.
  • Includes 10 video instructors, 22 practice role plays (including 19 in nine language pairs), more than 30 videos of interpreters demonstrating professional techniques in action and sharing their tips, 240+ interactive activities and a dozen self-assessment exercises.
  • Is the newest Blue Horizon course: these courses have been purchased in 31 countries and 46 U.S. states for interpreters speaking 47 languages.
  • Awards the most respected certificate in the field.

No other online training for medical interpreters offers these features.

About CCC and Blue Horizon:

Blue Horizon is the online training platform of Cross-Cultural Communications (CCC). Established in Maryland in 2001, CCC provides cutting-edge training for interpreters. Its mission is to enhance equal access to community services for culturally and linguistically diverse residents.
