Stepes Integrates ABBYY Text Recognition for the World’s Fastest Translation Services

New Content Capture Capability Dramatically Improves Translation Efficiency for Scanned Documents and Images Reducing Project Costs

Stepes (pronounced /’steps/), a leader in just-in-time translation services, has announced the integration of ABBYY text recognition for faster translation of scanned documents on demand. Stepes desktop and mobile translation solutions now use ABBYY Cloud Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to automatically convert scanned documents and images into editable formats for agile translation services.

Billed as the “Amazon” of translation services, Stepes online translation ecosystem automates many of the human touch points associated with traditional translation processes, significantly improving project turnaround and cost efficiency while achieving quality results. With the ABBYY integration, Stepes further streamlines its on-demand translation services by extracting translatable text from scanned PDF documents and pictures to provide customers with instant project estimates. Upon approval, the scanned documents are reviewed by a human project manager to ensure quality before sending out to translators for translation.

ABBYY OCR solution performs fast and accurate text recognition on scanned PDF documents and images in over 190 languages including European, Asian and Arabic languages.

“We are excited to expand our on-demand translation solutions to scanned documents,” comments Stepes Visionary Carl Yao. “By automating extraction of translatable text from scanned PDF documents and images, Stepes further strengthens its leadership position in providing global businesses with fast language translation services that today’s digital economy demands.”

In addition to text extraction, the integrated ABBYY Cloud OCR technology automatically converts translated contents to match the exact format and layout of the original scanned document. This automated desktop publishing (DTP) process eliminates the need to recreate the source document manually saving time and translation costs.

“ABBYY has a strong track record of providing intelligent capture solutions to businesses around the world. We are pleased that Stepes is now a valuable partner. We support the company’s mission – to facilitate multilingual communications – and are happy to contribute to their success”, comments Bruce Orcutt, Senior Vice President of Product Marketing at ABBYY.
