Together – Elia’s meeting place for translators and language companies – comes to Berlin
The second Together event, where freelance translators and language service companies come together, will be held in Berlin on 23-24 February 2017.
London, 13 December 2016—Following the success of 2016’s inaugural Together conference in Barcelona, the European Language Industry Association (Elia) once again brings the industry together, this time in Berlin.
As the only event in the translation industry calendar that is dedicated to fostering the relationship between language service companies (LSCs) and freelance linguists, Together’s mission is to create a positive and mutually rewarding experience for all attendees. Under the theme of Communicating for Success, with three inter-related tracks of Relationships, Processes and Technology, Together 2017 promises to build on the success of the first edition by developing more opportunities for industry professionals to learn, do business and network, all within a friendly and collaborative environment.
There will be a particular emphasis on opportunities for LSCs and translators to get to know each other better for the second edition with the Together Fair, where linguists are matched with LSCs seeking specialist skills and knowledge, and language service companies are finalising plans for their own vendor events around the conference.
The speaker programme kicks off with a keynote from Balázs Kis – founder, former CEO and current Head of Technical Communication at Kilgray – on the science of communication, the “noise” that is generated when we communicate and affects understanding, and how to cut through the clatter to communicate successfully.
The three tracks will be moderated by freelance translator Karen Tkaczyk (Relationships), Arancho Doc CEO Danilo Monaco (Processes) and José Blanco Pérez (Technology), founder of linguistic engineering company Locdep and will feature more panel discussions, where linguists and LSC representatives will discuss and encourage debate on hot topics such as machine translation (MT). With sessions covering industry trends, innovations, ethics, behavioural psychology, collaboration and cooperation amongst others, a range of case studies will also be presented with insights into how best practice in public tendering, outsourcing, content marketing and talent search have helped language businesses grow. The recap at the closing will summarise the highlights from each track to ensure attendees get maximum value and benefit from the cumulative expertise and knowledge.
Together is set to grow ahead of its second edition in Berlin, the city that symbolises coming together. Like Barcelona, the German capital was chosen as this year’s host city due to its vibrant translation community, as part of Elia’s strategy to highlight the diversity of the European language industry.
Lara Millmow, Elia Managing Director comments: “The power of the mutually rewarding relationship is one of the best assets in which language service companies and freelance translators can invest as the industry looks towards the future. We were delighted with the feedback we received from attendees at the first edition and look forward to bringing the industry together again in Berlin in 2017.”
Early Bird registration is open through 15 January 2017. Discounts are available for members of BDÜ, Aptrad, AATC and for group bookings. To find out more and register please visit: 2017.elia-together.org.
