Roeland Hofkens combines over 20 years of experience in multilingual content management with extensive software engineering skills and a strong background in artificial intelligence to deliver innovative products and solutions for LanguageWire. He was one of the founders of enterprise content management specialist Amplexor in Belgium. Afterwards he continued his journey in multilingual ECM as the CTO of systems integrator Westernacher in Germany. Roeland’s main focus is on building a scalable, state-of-the art language processing platform by applying deep learning and analytics to all kinds of NLP services and workflow automation tasks.
Oddmund Braaten

COO & Board Member
Oddmund Braaten is Chief Operating Officer at Interprefy. An experienced strategy and business development leader, he has held multiple leadership roles in the Hi-tech and Telcom industries and has been leading Interprefy’s transition from startup to a global RSI leader since 2015. Oddmund lives in Zurich and can often be found cycling across the Swiss alps.
Virpal Singh

Having previously served as Technical Project Manager and Growth Strategist at Ethiopia’s first Cardiac Hospital – Addis Cardiac Hospital, Virpal is aware of the potentials, and challenges, in Emerging Markets. After having served as tech lead for numerous Nordic Blue chip companies Virpal founded DigitalTolk, Sweden’s fastest growing language service provider, and one of Sweden’s fastest growing companies. Having assisted public customers in their digital transformation in language services, the company is now focused on augmenting digital language solutions with AI-services.

Gene Schriver is the founder and CEO of GLOBO, a leading translation technology and services provider, with a particular focus on on-demand services. Mr. Schriver has successfully led two high-growth companies in the language sector and has pioneered disruptive technology to provide greater access to essential services to limited English-speaking populations. Mr. Schriver has received the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® Award in the Technology category.
GLOBO is a six-time Philadelphia 100 awardee (including three times in the top ten), and has been named to the Inc. 500/5000 for five consecutive years, ranking as high as #118. Mr. Schriver lives with his wife and three daughters in the Philadelphia area.
Michel Lopez

Founder & CEO
Michel Lopez has over 30 years of experience, both in the technology and language industries. He grew up in France where he graduated with a Software Engineering degree, then taught AI in Saudi Arabia and Thailand. He founded and managed a software company in Bangkok, then managed e-commerce development teams in Thailand, Hong Kong and Silicon Valley.
In 2004, he founded e2f, a full-service localization company headquartered in San Jose and with a global presence. At the intersection of language and technology, e2f specializes in continuous translation, transcreation, machine translation, data collection and data annotation, and is developing its own annotation platform.
Michel is elated that his passions for language, software and AI are finally coming together as leading voice assistants are tackling one of the most complex challenges: understanding the meaning of what everybody is saying, regardless of their language, their ethnic origin, the content of their discussion and their emotions.
Hameed Afssari

Language Quality & Localization Operation Manager
Hameed Afssari has been involved in the globalization industry for more than 20 years mostly as software test engineering leader focusing on Internationalization at Microsoft. In 2017 he left Seattle, Microsoft and the testing world to become Globalization Product Manager at Workday in California. He joined Uber in summer of 2019 as Localization Operations Manager and led the effort to incorporate Machine Translation into Uber localization ecosystem. In 2021 he was entrusted to lead the Language Quality Program Management in addition to the Localization Operations team.
Konstantin Savenkov

CEO
Konstantin Savenkov is Intento CEO and Co-founder. After getting a PhD in 2008, Konstantin Savenkov led research and development efforts for online content services, then worked as Chief Technology Officer at Zvooq and as a Chief Operating Officer at Bookmate. In 2016, he contributed his experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI), tech and operations to found Intento, Inc., where they build tools to source, evaluate and use machine translation and other cognitive AI services.
Carrie Fischer

Globalization Services Manager
Carrie Fischer is the Globalization Services Manager at Subway, headquartered in Milford, CT. Subway is the largest quick service restaurant in the world with over 40,000 restaurants in over 100 countries. Previous localization positions held at Bodybuilding.com, Hyperion/Oracle and Transparent Language. She is also a volunteer at Women in Localization as a Program Director and a mentor. She has been in the industry for over 25 years and still enjoys learning new things and growing personally and professionally.
Rachel Carruthers

Head of Internationalisation & Localisation
Rachel Carruthers is the Head of Internationalisation and Localization at Canva, an online design and publishing tool which makes graphic design simple for everyone.
Since launching in 2013, Canva has grown to over 60 million monthly active users across 190 countries, with more than 7 billion designs created, at over 120 designs per second. Today Canva is growing from strength to strength, with over 2,000 team members working together globally on a mission to empower everyone to create beautiful designs.
At Canva, Rachel is responsible for ensuring that every user has a truly localised experience (be it on the Web App, iOS or Android platforms), while leading cross-functional globalization initiatives to support Canva’s long term international growth strategies. She and her team also ensure there is a variety of region-specific content for Canva’s design community, ensuring designs are relevant and fitting for each market. Prior moving to Sydney, Australia to pursue her Masters Degree in Media, Rachel was working as a Senior Localisation Project Manager back home in Silicon Valley, servicing high-profile tech enterprise clients.
Rachel holds a B.A. from University of California, Santa Cruz, majoring in Language Studies and minoring in History of Art and Visual Culture, and an M.A. from University of Sydney, focusing on International Media, Digital Media and Communications. In her free time you can find her outdoors on a camping trip, capturing some beautiful photos of the scenery along the way.
Matt Madderra

Director of Web Solutions
Matthew N. “Matt” Madderra is an information technology professional originally from New Orleans. A 2007 graduate of Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Technology, Matt has built a career with over 10 years of providing strategic direction to global ecommerce experiences, technology advancements, software development, and computing platforms.
Currently, Matt is Director of Web Solutions at Mouser Electronics; a Berkshire Hathaway company specializing in the global distribution of semiconductors and electronic components. During his tenure at Mouser, Matt has also held various management roles within the software development business analysis and web experience organizations. Prior to Mouser, Matt worked in within Information Technology departments at Pier 1 Imports and Zale Corporation.
David Meikle

CTO
David is the CTO of Lingo24, where he helps some of the world’s best brands achieve a global impact with the company’s AI-enabled translation services. He loves using technology to solve business problems.
Florian Faes

Co-Founder & Managing Director
Florian is the Managing Director of Slator and host of the SlatorPod podcast. Based in Zurich, Florian Faes spent almost a decade in Asia before launching Slator in 2015. Slator is the most up-to-date source of news and analysis covering language services and technology and works as a distributed team based in Asia, Europe, and the US.
Andrew Smart

Andrew Smart is the Commercial Director at Slator responsible for product development and pricing, online ad and research sales, and event sponsorships.
Prior to co-founding Slator, Andrew has worked in the media, internet and finance industries including managing media businesses for Thomson Reuters, Fairfax Media and The Economist Group. He has an MBA in Finance and Investments from The George Washington University in Washington DC and has been based in Asia for over 25 years.
Esther Bond

Research Director
Esther spent several years in France and Luxembourg for work and study, and has since returned to her native London. She has a strong languages background, having studied for degrees in French & Linguistics and Translation & Interpreting. She went on to pursue a career in the Language Services industry, where she gained PM, technology and management experience before joining the Slator team.
Anna Wyndham

Senior Research Analyst
Anna is a language services industry professional with expertise in project management, management and quality systems, and a special interest in the life sciences sector. Starting her career in data annotation in Sydney, she then gained 10 years’ experience in London and Madrid with major LSPs before joining Slator as a research contributor. She holds a B.A. (Hons) in Linguistics from the University of Sydney.
