The Translation Centre sees a sustained demand for translation from EU agencies and bodies in 2018. But to deliver three-quarters of a million translated pages per year, it relies on extensive outsourcing and technology. Machine translation not yet integrated into production.
The call for bids is for four projects involving the translation of legal text, including legal documents of ongoing proceedings, decision of various legal bodies, legal opinion, and other texts that deal with EU or national laws.
The Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union spends EUR 26m on staff, outsources more than EUR 13m to external language service providers, and charges between EUR 73 and EUR 147 per page.
