ISO 18587:2017 is a standard that applies specifically to the process of full, human post-editing of machine translation output and post-editors’ competences, and is geared towards translation service providers, their clients and post-editors.

The use of machine translation (MT) systems to meet the needs of an increasingly demanding translation and localization industry has gained a lot of ground over the last few years.

Many translation service providers and clients have come to realize that MT is a viable solution for translating projects that need to be completed within a very tight time frame and/or with a reduced budget.

Machine translation offers clients the possibility to translate material that could not otherwise be translated, decreasing translation costs and speeding up time to market and the flow of information.

Machine translation also allows translation service providers to improve translation productivity and turn-around times, and remain competitive in an environment where clients are increasingly demanding MT in translation.

The final quality of the translation output still depends on human translators and their skills in post-editing, hence this certification.

Charles Campbell, President of Translation Back Office, states “I am so proud of our team’s ISO 18587:2017 efforts to continually improve the quality of our services, driving satisfaction for customers, employees, suppliers and stockholders.  ISO 18587:2017 certification will be a huge achievement for us.”
