MSU’s Partnership with TST’s unique, IACET accredited, online training and assessment program for Analytic Linguists expands access to rewarding career opportunities for bilingual Spanish-English college graduates in vital growth industry

Newport Beach, May 31, 2018 – Translation Skills Training®, LLC, (TST) announced today the formalization of its strategic partnership with Montclair State University, the second largest public university in the state of New Jersey to deliver two certificate programs aimed at training Analytic Linguists.  This partnership appealed to MSU since, prior to the creation of TST’s program for training and assessment, no such program, academic or otherwise, was available to those seeking training, certification and then access to reliable employment as Analytic Linguists. For those who are unfamiliar with the occupation of Analytic Linguist, Elena G. Rojas, CEO and President of TST offers a concise definition:

“The job function of an Analytic Linguist is to monitor court-ordered, non-consensual intercepts by listening to conversations in foreign languages and translating or interpreting these conversations that are used by various United States federal and local government law enforcement agencies to prosecute cases.”

“We are excited about our partnership with Montclair,” said Ms. Rojas, hastening to add that “this strategic partnership will allow qualified bilingual Spanish-English adults to obtain our one-of-a-kind, professional certification as Analytic Linguists under the auspices of Montclair State University, a respected R3 higher education institution. Learners who complete this program then are positioned to gain meaningful and well-paid employment with the government or in private industry.” Added Thomas Ashley, a former FBI Agent who has worked with Ms. Rojas on field assignments in the past, “this program will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of a new linguist in order to meet the demands and requirements of current and future companies.”

Dr. Peter McAliney, Executive Director of Montclair State University’s Continuing and Professional Education (CAPE) unit is excited to be working with TST to deliver these programs with TST. “This is the perfect kind of program for MSU – we have a robust Justice Studies program while at the same time, we have just been recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution.  This program will create job opportunities for (MSU) graduates. And, as the exclusive partner with TST, we can provide training for all dual Spanish-English speakers throughout the country.”

Ms. Rojas, citing the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics, pointed out that 17,500 new jobs as translators and interpreters in support of law enforcement need to be filled by 2024.  According to Agent Ashley, “analytic linguists are in more demand than ever before because of a changing and more diverse world.”

The designation of translators and interpreters includes the job functions of Analytic Linguists who, in addition to those tasks, also monitor oral communication intercepts, commonly known as wiretaps, authorized by court order.  This job growth represents a 28.7% expansion in job creation in this industry in the 2014-2024 period. Potential salaries for Analytic Linguists are also attractive, particularly for recent college graduates, averaging, according to the same US government source cited, around $70K per year.

Currently, TST’s training is available to those who speak Spanish and English, have an undergraduate degree in any field and, due to the nature of their future work, are US citizens and who will be 25 years old when they successfully complete TST’s sequential program of studies, consisting of six courses of six weeks each, distributed over 18-24 weeks.  Candidates must also be able to pass a federal security clearance, a process which Ms. Rojas is amply prepared and able to help them pursue.

This partnership unites the one hundred plus years prestige of Montclair State University as a leader in higher education and provider of continuing education for adults with the widely recognized achievements and professional experience of the members of TST’s team of experts.
